Kansas City, Mo. - The accolades keep rolling in for Jonathan Whitson as the junior forward was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches 2009 All-Southeast Division II District 2nd team this past Thursday. This is the third postseason award Whitson has been recognized for, having previously been named to the 1st team All-SAC and the Daktronics All-Southeast Region 2nd team.
Whitson, a native of Clyde, N.C. led the Tornados in scoring and rebounding in 2008-09, averaging 19.1 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game. He led the South Atlantic Conference in rebounding as well as made field goals and was recognized on March 7th for his play, as he became the first basketball player in the school to be given 1st team All-SAC honors.
Whitson's best performance of the year came on February 11 against North Greenville, when he scored a career-high 33 points in a 78-62 win. In the game, Whitson set Brevard's all-time scoring record. February 25 against Newberry, he added the school's all-time rebounding record to his list of achievements.
Whitson joins three other performers in the South Atlantic Conference on the NABC All-Southeast team along with first teamer Kyle Moore (Tusculum) and fellow second teamers Elliot McDowell (Lenoir-Rhyne) and Antonio Houston (Catawba).
