Harrogate, T.N. – The Brevard College men’s tennis team swept the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters in doubles play on Saturday afternoon, which proved to be the difference in 5-4 road victory for the Tornados.
The Tornados swept the Railsplitters in doubles play, winning all three bouts and taking an early 3-0 lead.
At the No. 1 doubles position, the BC duo of Cole Altizer and Jared Fisher dropped the LMU team of Andras Pauko and Gabor Heredi-Szabo, 8-3. At the No. 2 spot, the tandem of Andrew Thompson and Konstantin Savelyev defeated Hannes Ganss and Zack Jones of LMU, 8-5, while at the No. 3 slot, the BC team of Sam Johnston and Shane Apps beat Andrew Bates and Bastian Guenther, 8-5.
In singles play, the Tornados were able to win two of the six bouts to secure them the 5-4 victory.
BC freshman standout Altizer defeated LMU’s Heredi-Szabo at the No. 4 singles spot, 6-2, 7-5.
The other BC singles win came at the No. 5 spot as Apps cruised past Cody Swindall of LMU, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
With the win, the Tornados improve to 9-10 on the season.
The Tornados will wrap up their 2007-08 season on Monday, April 14, as BC will travel to Asheville, N.C. to take on the Bulldogs of UNC-Asheville. The match is slated for a 2:30 p.m. start time.
