Brevard, N.C. – Andrew Thompson and Nate Lyles teamed up for a win in third flight doubles and each took their singles point as Brevard College doubled up Lenoir-Rhyne University, 6-3. Brevard moves to 13-3 (4-3 SAC) with the win.
The Bears (6-12, 0-5 SAC) won the top flight singles point, as John and Barry Fichardt downed Brevard’s Cole Altizer and Konstantin Savelyev, 8-5. The Tornados took the final two markers in pairs, though, as Jarred Fisher and Heikki Riikonen beat Graydon Dunn and Brian Reid, 8-2, and Thompson and Lyles downed Nate Summer and Michael Owens by the same tally.
The Fichardt brothers prevailed again in the top two singles matches, as John beat Riikonen, 1-6, 7-6 (10-8), 10-7, and Barry got past Savelyev, 7-5, 6-2. But the hosts won the final four points. Altizer won a three-setter over Hernando Saavedra, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, and Thompson drilled Dunn, 6-1, 6-1. Lyles waxed Owens, 6-0, 6-1 and Shane Apps clipped Reid, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, winning the clinching point in the process.
