Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College women’s tennis team won their tenth straight match Friday, downing South Atlantic Conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne University, 9-0. The Tornados (14-3, 5-2 SAC) have not lost a point as a team in two straight matches.
The day started with two wins and a walkover in doubles action. Lindsay Shaeffer and Kim Dixon beat Jennifer Binney and Kate Meiners, 8-0, and Lindsay Hostetter teamed with Kayley Duval for an 8-0 triumph over Bekah Rhoney and Mariel Mena. Lenoir-Rhyne (0-13, 0-5 SAC) did not field a No. 3 doubles team, allowing Brevard to take the point.
At No. 1 singles, Shaeffer got past Meiners, 6-3, 6-3, and at No. 2 Duval beat Binney, 6-0, 6-4. Dixon won the third flight, 6-0, 6-1 over Rhoney, Jennifer Nyman doubled Mena at No. 4, 6-3, 6-3, and Merek Slagle beat Lizzie Warlick in the fifth, 6-0, 6-0. Lenoir-Rhyne did not have a sixth singles player, giving Brevard the ninth point.
Brevard looks to stay hot with a Saturday match against Tusculum. First serve is 1 p.m. The Bears tangle with Spartanburg Methodist Saturday at 2 p.m.
