Brevard, N.C. - The Tornados fell to Newberry in their third conference game of year. Tiffany Kinner, Lora Moore, Laura Mottel each added a goal and an assist for Newberry en route to a 5-0 victory over Brevard.
With the win, Newberry improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while Brevard fell to 4-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Newberry scored their first goal eleven minutes in when Lora Moore rebounded the ball after Sydney Douglas saved a Mottel shot to make the score 1-0.
Their next goal came in the 24th minute when Micheala Peach crossed a pass to Tiffany Kinner who headed the ball into the back of the net.
Five minutes later, Mottel scored a goal to go with her assist. Moore passed the ball over the last defender to an open Mottel to put Newberry up 3-0 going into the half.
Newberry scoring continued into the second half. Peach notched her second assist of the game when her pass went through the defense to Amberly Fowler who made the score 4-0. A minute later, Ashley Reetz found Katie Sas in front of the net for their fifth and final goal.
The Tornados threatened to score with a Cherie Haseltine shot on goal then a Jessica Guadagno shot on goal, but Megan Hrenchir, who replaced the starting keeper for the final twelve minutes, saved both shots.
Douglas saved five of ten shots on goal, while the Newberry starting Goalkeeper, Emily Rhoades faced no shots on goal.
The Tornados return to SAC action on Saturday. Brevard will travel to Tusculum instead of playing the game at home as was scheduled due to poor field conditions at Brevard.
