Brevard, N.C. - Sophomore, Bailey Varley scored twice for the Tornados, both times assisted by freshman Chantel Azevedo who also added a goal for the Tornados en route to a 3-0 victory over the Warren Wilson Owls Saturday afternoon.
The Tornados improve to 6-8 with the win, while Warren Wilson falls to 2-3-2 on the season.
Brevard broke the 0-0 dead lock with ten remaining in the first half when Azevedo handled the ball up the field before dropping a pass to Varley who crossed a shot into the left corner of the net from 15 yards out.
The Tornados dominated the first half out shooting Warren Wilson 13-3. Brevard’s defense had held Warren Wilson to no shots on goal until the Owls finally knocked one towards Jordan Box with five minutes remaining in the half. Box saved two shots within the last five minutes to send to Tornados into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Azevedo scored the Tornados second goal at 62:03 when she lofted a shot over Williams’ head and into the back of the net from 35 yards out. Minutes later Azevedo, who leads Brevard in assists, assisted on a goal when she connected with Varley for the second time in the game. Varley took a shot from the right corner that keeper Claire Williams got her hand on before it bounced into the net for Varley’s eighth goal of the year.
Chelsea Watson set the Tornados up for multiple scoring opportunities in the second crossing the ball to teammates just outside the box, but Williams saved six Tornado shots in the second half alone and twelve on the day to keep the score at 3-0 despite being outshot by the Tornados 26-5.
Jordan Box recorded the win and the shut out for the Torandos to improve her record in the net to 4-0 on the season.
Brevard will return to action on Tuesday, October 13 when they travel to Central, S.C. for a 7 p.m. competition against Southern Wesleyan.
