Newberry, S.C. - The Tornados took two of the three doubles matches on their way to winning their first match of the season, topping SAC opponent Newberry on Saturday afternoon, 5-4.
With the win, Brevard improves to 1-3 on the season, 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference play, while Newberry falls to 1-3 and 0-1 in the conference.
Scott McCormick and Andrew Thompson defeated Christian Ranguelov and Jeremy Smith, 9-7, at #1 doubles to give Brevard their first point. Lucas Mattos and Maxim Sukharev topped BC’s Jonathan Kuhn and Jonathan Lavelle 8-0 at #2 doubles, while Dorian Feron and Jarred Fisher defeated Pavle Popovic and Scott Busbee, 8-0, to give the Tornados the 2-1 advantage heading into doubles play.
McCormick topped Mattos in #1 singles, 6-4, 6-4, while Newberry won the points at #2 and #3 singles as Sukharev topped Thompson 6-3, 6-3 and Smith defeated Fisher, 6-2, 6-4. Ranguelov won at #6 singles for Newberry, defeating Lavelle 6-1, 6-1 to close out the match. Shane Apps topped Busbee at #5 singles in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, while Feron clinched the match by defeating Popovic in #4 singles at 6-0, 6-3.
The Tornados are back on the courts on Tuesday, March 2nd, hosting North Greenville at the BC Tennis Complex with first serve coming at 2 p.m.
