Newberry, S.C. - Brevard swept all three doubles matches on their way to a 9-0 victory over host Newberry College on Saturday afternoon as the Tornados opened South Atlantic Conference play with their second victory of the season.
Brevard improves to 2-2 on the season, 1-0 in conference play, while Newberry falls to 1-4 and 0-1 in the SAC.
Lindsay Shaeffer and Kim Dixon defeated the Newberry duo of Autise Mortimer and Amanda Simmons in #1 singles, 8-2, while Lindsay Hostetter and Kayley Duval topped Rebekah Crouch and Stephanie Matthews, 8-0. Brevard completed the doubles’ sweep as Merek Slagle and Elis Labus defeated Lindsay Kyzer and Sierra Hoover, 8-0, in #3 singles.
Shaeffer dropped her second set in her three-set win over Mortimer in #1 singles, 6-0, 3-6, 7-5, while Brevard swept the other five matches in straight sets. Hostetter topped Simmons 6-4, 6-4, while Duval and Dixon defeated Crouch and Kyzer, 6-0, 6-0. Douglas topped Matthews 6-3, 7-5 at the #5 position, while Nyman defeated Hoover, 6-0, 6-2 to end the match.
Brevard will continue play on Tuesday, March 2nd, as the Tornados host North Greenville at the BC Tennis Complex with first serve coming at 2 p.m.
