Anderson, Canady Selected as Nominees for Cliff Harris Award
Brevard College football defensive standouts Dante Anderson and Steffon Canady have been selected as nominees for the seventh annual Cliff Harris Award, an award given to the nation’s top small college defensive player.
Anderson and Canady represent two of only 71 players in all of NCAA DIII Football to receive consideration for the award.
Anderson, a native of Hartwell, Georgia, culminated a breakout 2019 season with a USA South All-Conference First Team selection. The junior defensive back tallied 81 total tackles, one sack, 6.5 tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and a blocked kick in what was a career year for Anderson.
Canady, a native of Glendale, Arizona, was selected as the 2019 ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl Most Valuable Player following a record day where the junior linebacker recorded four sacks in Brevard’s 42-28 victory over Carnegie Mellon University. Canady set the new single-season school record for sacks with 11.6. The junior totaled 66 tackles, 14 tackles-for-loss, and a forced fumble en route to a USA South All-Conference Second Team nod.

CHAMPIONS!!! Brevard College Wins 2019 ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl over Carnegie Mellon
A historic, record-breaking season that will go down as the best season-to-date in Brevard College football's history concluded on Saturday, November 23 when Brevard College (8-2) won the 2019 ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl over host Carnegie Mellon (8-3), 42-28, at Gesling Stadium in Pittsburgh.
Brevard scored touchdowns on offense, defense, and special teams en route to the postseason victory - the first in BC football history - as the Tornados made their debut appearance in the postseason.
The win gives the 2019 BC Football team eight victories this season, which sets a new program record for single-season victories.
The Tornados, led by third-year Head Coach Bill Khayat, outscored the hosts 21-10 in the first half before a dominant third quarter that saw Brevard score 21 points that propelled the Tornados towards victory.
Steffon Canady was named the 2019 ECAC Scotty Whitelaw Bowl Most Valuable Player after a record-setting performance. The junior from Glendale, Arizona tied current Defensive Line Coach and Brevard College alumnus Axel Easter's single-game sack record, as Canady recorded four sacks in addition to eight tackles and five tackles-for-loss.

Brevard College Football Featured on WLOS News 13's Game Changers - "The Brevard College Football Team Making History"
The Brevard College Tornados football team was recently featured on WLOS News 13's "Game Changers" segment ahead of Brevard's first postseason appearance in program history, a trip to the ECAC's Scotty Whitelaw Bowl in Pittsburgh vs. host Carnegie Mellon University.
The segment highlighted Brevard's record-breaking 2019 season and featured Brevard's meteoric rise through the ranks of the USA South, spotlighting Brevard's second-place conference finish after being picked sixth in the USA South Football preseason coaches poll.
"We all knew we had a better team than sixth," stated sophomore quarterback and former local high school standout at West Henderson Dalton Cole. "Kind of seeing that, not disrespectful, but you don't know what we've got going on around here."

Brevard Set to Conclude Historical 2019 Season at Scotty Whitelaw Bowl vs. Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH - A record-shattering, groundbreaking season in the history of Brevard College Football is set to conclude on Saturday when Brevard College (7-2, 5-2 USA South) makes its first-ever appearance in the postseason, facing off with the Carnegie Mellon University (8-2, 7-2 PAC) in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Scotty Whitelaw Bowl.
Gesling Stadium, CMU’s home ground, will serve as the site for the matchup on Saturday with kickoff slated for 1 p.m.

Five Football Student-Athletes Receive USA South Conference Postseason Honors
The USA South Conference has announced its All-Conference and All-Sportsmanship Teams following the 2019 USA South Football regular season, tabbing five Brevard College football student-athletes with postseason honors.
Junior defensive back Dante Anderson was voted as Brevard’s lone All-Conference First Team selection of 2019, while three Tornados – Steffon Canady (junior, linebacker), Justin Parker (sophomore, offensive lineman), and Louis Williams III (sophomore, defensive lineman) – were dubbed All-Conference Second Team selections. Junior long snapper Brandon Whitfield was picked as Brevard’s representative on the All-Sportsmanship Team.
This announcement adds to Brevard’s already established foothold on USA South awards, as the Tornados earned six USA South postseason honors in 2018 – BC’s first season eligible for USA South postseason plaudits – giving the Tornados a total of 11 such honors.
