MARYVILLE, Tenn.- Annalee Bollinger scored over 20 points for the sixth game this season, but Maryville was able to withstand Brevard 70-63 on Tuesday night.
For Maryville (14-8), five players reached double-digit scoring on the night, which included double-double performances from Amber Hudgens (11 points, 15 rebounds) and Rachel Hawn (13 points, 12 rebounds). Libby Gardner came off the bench for Maryville to lead the Scots in scoring on the night with 14, by going 2-of-2 from the field and 9-of-10 from the foul line.
After trailing by as many as 12 points at the 5:43 mark in the second quarter, the Tornados went on a 19-6 run and took the lead following a made free throw from an and-one opportunity from Bollinger to make the score 36-35 with 8:15 remaining in the second quarter. This would be the final lead of the game for Brevard, as Maryville was able to keep the Tornados at arms-length for the remainder of the game.
At the 3:49 mark of the fourth quarter, Napier cut the lead to one point on her only made 3-pointer of the game to make the score 58-57 in favor of Maryville. After that point, the Scots went on a 12-6 run, with Gardner sinking all nine of her free throws in the final 2:23 seconds of the game.
Brevard will return home for back-to-back games on Friday afternoon and Saturday night, as the Tornados will host Covenant and Berea, respectively.
