BREVARD, N.C. – Following the completion of a five-game home stand, which concluded with back-to-back victories for the first time since April 2016, the Brevard women's lacrosse team heads to the Triangle to face Meredith on Saturday at 12 p.m.
The last two victories for the Tornados came by virtue of a 16-11 triumph over LaGrange (March 17) and a 20-4 routing of N.C. Wesleyan (March 11). Brevard also claimed a 21-7 win over Felician (March 7) during the extensive home stand.
In the win over the Panthers, the duo of Nina Siu and Victoria Hayes played an instrumental role in the Tornados moving to 4-6 on the season by scoring five goals each. Siu also added two assists to finish with seven points.
Brevard also received two goals each from Kelly Kearnan and Micaiah Vacchiano. Kearnan was also active on defense with a game-high eight ground balls, while teammate Shelby Arsenault picked up her fourth win of the season by making 12 saves.
Siu moved her season total in goals to 41 in the process, while Hayes sits a close second with 34. Vacchiano has tallied 15 goals and Kearnan is fourth on the Tornados with 13. Siu and Kearnan are tied for the team lead in assists (11), giving Siu 52 points on the season.
Meredith (8-3), who is 3-1 at home this season, enters the match riding a three-game winning streak that began with a 21-5 downing of Methodist on March 14. The Avenging Angels have outscored their opponents 67-12 during the streak, posting 22-3 and 24-4 wins over Piedmont and Greensboro on March 17 and 20, respectively.
Five players on the Meredith roster have scored at least 20 goals this season, including Carlee Joseph (39) and Holly Hite (34), who have 50 and 42 points, respectively. Julie Capretti has tallied 29 goals, while Lilia Cruz (23) and Hanna Anderson (20) rank among the top Avenging Angels in scoring. Cruz leads the way for the unit with 20 assists on the season.
