Brevard’s Sallie Riggan Picked to USA South Women’s Soccer All-Sportsmanship Team Brevard College junior midfielder Sallie Riggan was selected as BC’s representative on the USA South Conference Women’s Soccer All-Sportsmanship Team. Riggan, a native of Wilmington, North Carolina, started 17 games in 2019 for the Tornados, scoring a penalty kick in a 2-1 victory over Wesleyan College. Full Story
Women’s Soccer’s Season Finale vs. Toccoa Falls Canceled Due to Weather Due to severe inclement weather in Toccoa, Georgia, this afternoon’s season finale vs. Toccoa Falls College has been canceled. The announcement concludes the 2019 season for Head Coach Juan Mascaro’s Brevard College women’s soccer team. The Tornados finish their 2019 campaign with a 5-10-3 record, including a 4-4 mark in USA South Conference play. Brevard’s four wins in conference action are the second-most in BC’s NCAA-era history. Tornados Drop Match to Owls in Swannanoa The Brevard College women’s soccer team (5-10-3) dropped a non-conference road match to Warren Wilson College (6-5-2) in BC’s penultimate contest of the 2019 season on Tuesday afternoon in Swannanoa, North Carolina. Following a 0-0 score through the first half, the host Owls broke out with two goals in the second period to take the victory. A mostly equal match in several statistical categories, the two teams each registered eight shots with the Owls holding a slight edge (6-5) in shots-on-goal. Bruins’ Overtime Golden Goal Sinks Tornados on Senior Night Bob Jones University (9-6) scored a golden goal in the 107th minute to down the Brevard College women’s soccer team (5-9-3), 1-0, on Senior Night at Ives-Lemel Family Field on a rain-soaked Friday evening. The match marked Brevard’s final home match of the 2019 season. Brevard women’s soccer will conclude its regular season with two-straight road matches. Brevard’s two seniors, Audrey Cardwell and Erica Zufferey, were honored prior to Friday’s match as part of the Tornados’ Senior Night festivities. Junior goalkeeper Hannah Weatherall made her first appearance in goal for the Tornados in the 2019 season, saving a total of 12 shots to set a new single-game career-high for the Bourg, Louisiana native.
