LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Brevard College Volleyball team (0-12) earned game wins in a pair of match defeats to Greensboro (7-6) and Randolph (6-6) on Saturday in Lynchburg, Virginia.
In the first match of the day vs. Greensboro, Brevard fell behind 1-0 with a 25-16 loss in the opening set. The Tornados played the Pride tightly in set number two, falling 25-23.
The third set proved fruitful for Brevard as the Tornados won 25-19 to extend the match. A close fourth set went in favor for the Pride who won 25-23 to close out the match.
Julie McGahy led Brevard offensively with 13 kills. Raley Shirey also recorded double-digit kills with a 10-kill output. Breanna O'Shields added nine kills to go along with five kills by Sarah Hutchens.
Setter Hannah Gordon produced a team-best 26 assists, while libero Mariana Rodriguez paced the Tornados defensively with 24 digs.
In the final match of the day, the Tornados took on host Randolph. In this match, Brevard took an early lead with a 25-23 first set victory. Randolph then won the second and third sets by identical 25-11 scores before clinching the match with a 25-15 fourth set win.
O'Shields (seven kills) and McGahy (six kills) paced BC offensively vs. Randolph. Rodriguez totaled 16 digs, while Gordon registered seven digs and six assists. Lande Simpson recorded a team-high 11 assists in the contest.
Brevard returns to action on Saturday, September 28 with a tri-match in Montgomery, Alabama with matchups vs. host Huntington and LaGrange.
